The people behind your plan

Every plan at Jay Law is designed, reviewed and signed by an attorney.

Travis Neal, Founding Partner

“I came to the practice naturally. My father was an estate planning attorney and my mother worked in adult protective services. Dinnertime conversations focused on how to connect with people so that you could then understand how to best help them. I strive to continue that ethic with Jay Law.”

About Travis

For almost 20 years, Travis has helped Bay Area clients plan for the people they love and has guided families through the work that follows a death or incapacity.

Travis meets clients where they are. Some come to him for a will and a trust. Others need a plan that addresses estate and gift tax, a family business, or California property tax. He takes the time to understand each family before he drafts, so the plan reflects how the client lives and what the client values.

When a loved one passes away or can no longer manage his or her own affairs, Travis advises trustees and executors on how to administer the estate. He has administered complex estates, prepared estate and gift tax returns, and appeared in probate court.

Travis began his career in litigation, where he prepared cases for trial and negotiated settlements in probate, real property, and employment disputes. That experience shapes how he plans today. He drafts with an eye toward the disagreements a plan can prevent.

For five years, Travis wrote and edited practice guides at Continuing Education of the Bar, the publisher California trusts and estates attorneys rely on. His work covered trust drafting, trust and probate administration and litigation, special needs trusts, elder law, conservatorships, and guardianships.

Travis started his legal career as a law clerk to the Honorable William Schwarzer of the United States District Court for the Northern District of California.

How he works

“Estate planning is personal, and clients open up more when they feel at ease. I focus on building that comfort early, so we can talk openly about your goals, your family, and what matters most to you. From there, I build a plan that fits your life and meets your goals.”
